Chinese New YearOn Monday the 7th March we had a very special day in school as we celebrated the Chinese New Year (a little early). We had 5 workshops for the children to attend were they learnt all about different aspects of the Chinese culture. The children had the opportunity to mix with children from different year groups. The day began with an assembly, Mr Craig read one of the stories explaining how the Chinese New Years were linked with an animal. Aspects of ChristmasOur Christmas play this year was called Aspects of Christmas. There were 5 main characters in the park talking about their thoughts and memories of Christmas and 5 scenes showing various parts of Christmas day. Each class acted a different scene with all the children joining in the songs. ChristingleThis week we have held our Christingle. The service involved all the children either singing, reading or acting out the nativity scene. Family and friends of the school were invited to come along to enjoy our celebration of the birth of Jesus. Cyber Bullying WorkshopsAlex Butler visited our school to talk to the children about the dangers of the internet and how they can keep themselves safe. She held an assembly and then went around each class doing workshops with the children. Most of the children came dressed up in fantastic costumes and all of them seemed to really enjoy themselves. The event raised £94.
Harvest FestivalThis week we held our Harvest Festival. We invited along family, friends and Father Michael to watch our Festival. The children performed songs, wrote and read their poems and tolds us lots of interesting facts about Autumn. The children brought in a lovely range of fruit and vegetables, most of which (they told us with pride) had been grown by members of their families. Connecting ClassroomsDuring February our school played host to teachers from schools in Kenya and Ghana as part of the Connecting Classrooms project. The teachers spoke to our children about their schools, they taught them some traditional African songs and dances as well as giving them the opportunity to play some African drums. |
